PRP (PlateletRichPlasma), a treatment method that is generally used in rejuvenation operations in aesthetic and plastic surgery and heals the patient with his own blood, has been reported to give successful results in joint disorders in recent years.
Although PRP treatment was initially developed as a cosmetic treatment for anti-aging, it has a curative effect on musculoskeletal system diseases, and it is a new method that has been used in this field. In this method, since the drug is prepared from the patient’s own blood, it can be considered as a natural treatment method.
Approximately 10 cc of blood from the patient is taken into a tube containing an anticoagulant specially prepared for this purpose, and this blood is subjected to a special centrifugation process. After centrifugation, the cells of the blood, other than platelets, precipitate at the bottom of the tube and a platelet-rich yellow liquid remains on it. From the region where the platelets are more concentrated at the bottom of this upper liquid, the part where the plasma injection will be applied, which has approximately 1 million platelet cells per cubic millimeter, is drawn into the injector. Finally, after adding the drug (calcium chloride) that will activate the platelets to this plasma, the PRP is now ready for use and after this stage, it is injected into the required area with the appropriate technique without waiting.
